Official Bio:
Angela Shanté, is an award-winning author and former K-12 teacher. Originally from New York City, she spent the early years of her career teaching in public schools, where she developed a deep passion for literacy and education. Angela earned an MFA in Creative Writing from the City College of New York and an MSED from Fordham University, refining her expertise in both writing and education.
Now based in Southern California, Angela works as a consultant and multi-hyphen artist, specializing in creative, educational, and culturally relevant projects for kids, teachers, and organizations. Her work in arts education is deeply rooted in advocating for equity and access, with a strong emphasis on elevating marginalized voices and creating inclusive learning spaces. Angela is committed to using creative storytelling as a tool to inspire and empower all readers.
As an author, Angela’s work spans multiple genres and is praised for its heart, wit, and authenticity. Her debut Young Adult (YA) book, "THE UNBOXING OF A BLACK GIRL," is nominated for the 2024 National Book Award for Young People's Literature.

Kid-Friendly Bio:
Angela Shanté is an award winning author, teacher, and poet. She grew up in New York City in a large African American family. Most of the characters she creates are inspired by her life (like the books, THE NOISY CLASSROOM and THE NOISY CLASSROOM GOES TO THE MUSEUM), her family (like the book WHEN MY COUSINS COME TO TOWN), or her Black culture (like in the books SUNDAY DINNER and THE UNBOXING OF A BLACK GIRL). Angela currently lives in California with her dog Blue.
